Separated at birth and reunited at age 10 on Good Morning America, twin sisters Audrey Doering and Gracie Rainsberry have defied the odds once again. Now 18, they’ve both been named valedictorians of their respective high schools, celebrating their graduations together despite living 1700 miles apart.
“Our situation is not ideal, it’s not like most twins,” Gracie acknowledged on GMA. “But I’m so glad that I was able to go down and be with Audrey on her special day. And then when I graduate, she’s going to be able to come to Washington.”
Their journey began in 2007 when both girls, suffering from heart conditions, were adopted from China by different American families. A decade later, Audrey’s mother discovered her daughter had a twin and tracked down Gracie’s family through Facebook, leading to their emotional reunion on the morning show.
Since then, the sisters have grown incredibly close, sharing birthdays, international trips, and countless firsts together. “The best part is we get to spend time together and we get to know each other,” Audrey shared in a previous interview.
Now, as they embark on their next chapter, Audrey is headed to Vanderbilt University while Gracie will attend Eastern Oregon University on a soccer scholarship. Both received full scholarships, with Sallie Mae surprising them each with an additional $10,000 for college expenses on GMA.
Despite the distance, the twins are excited about the independence college will bring. Gracie expressed her eagerness to “be on her own” and explore her career options, while Audrey is ready to “explore all my different options” in Nashville.
Their incredible bond, forged through separation and reunited on national television, is a testament to the enduring power of family and the remarkable resilience of these two young women. As Audrey shared in a joint Instagram post with Gracie, “So grateful for this incredible journey and all the amazing memories made along the way.”
