The highly anticipated animated film The Tiger’s Apprentice is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ on 2 February in the United States and 3 February in the United Kingdom. Based on the children’s book series by Laurence Yep, the film is a blend of action, adventure, and fantasy.

Directed by Raman Hui, co-directed by Paul Watling and Yong Duk Jhun, and written by David Magee and Christopher Yost, The Tiger’s Apprentice tells the story of Chinese-American teenager Tom Lee, voiced by Brandon Soo Hoo. The character’s life takes a dramatic turn when he learns he is a descendant of a long line of magical protectors known as the Guardians. Under the guidance of a mythical tiger named Hu, voiced by Henry Golding, Tom embarks on a journey to confront Loo, a character with malevolent intentions, voiced by Michelle Yeoh.

The film features an ensemble voice cast, including Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, Leah Lewis, Kheng Hua Tan, Sherry Cola, Deborah S. Craig, Jo Koy, Greta Lee, Diana Lee Inosanto, Patrick Gallagher, and Poppy Liu. This diverse cast brings to life a story that combines elements of Chinese mythology and modern-day San Francisco.

Director Raman Hui expressed his personal connection to the film, stating, “Having lived in San Francisco and being Chinese American, I found the fantasy of mythical Zodiac warriors helping a Chinese kid in San Francisco Chinatown to become the guardian fascinating.” He added that with the film’s Asian cast, they are thrilled to share this magical and action-packed adventure.
