Disney has released the first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Starring Kim’s Convenience actor Simu Liu, the film is Marvel’s first martial-arts live action film.

Shang-Chi, AKA Master of Kung Fu, is a Marvel Comics character created in 1972 who eventually joins the Avengers. The character had his own series that ran for 125 issues and had a love interest with Deadpool’s ex, Domino.

In the trailer, audiences are treated to glimpses of Shang-Chi facing off against the mysterious Ten Rings organization and its leader, the Mandarin.

Liu’s acrobatic martial arts skills are teased, as well as a few laughs from Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina, who plays Katy.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will hit theatres on 3 September.

In other film news, Minari star Steven Yeun has revealed he is wary about being only viewed as an “Asian American” actor.
