In an interview with EW, Hobbs & Shaw writer Chris Morgan said justice for Han will be delivered.

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham will hit theatres this weekend in Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw.

In the franchise, Statham’s character Deckard Shaw killed Han, played by Sung Kang. Han made his first appearance in 2006’s The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift, in which he was killed off.

However, he became such a fan favourite that the writers decided to predate the following films in the franchise to feature the character in 2009’s Fast And Furious: Fast Five and then 2013’s Fast & Furious 6.

In the sixth film we learn that Shaw was behind Han’s death and ever since fans have been calling for ‘justice for Han’.

Morgan told EW that he backed the idea and there are plans to revisit the character.

“I love ‘justice for Han,’” Morgan said. “Sung Kang is a great friend, and Han is a character that I adore. I would say that the super-arc for Deckard Shaw is going to be one of the most interesting, cool, rewarding character arcs in the franchise.”

“Justice for Han is owed,” he added. “It’s something we have discussed for a very long time and want to give the right due to. I think the audience will be satisfied and should know it’s coming.”

Referencing the latest film, Morgan says Shaw even references Kang’s character. “There’s a line in Hobbs & Shaw that is right before the battle in Samoa where Shaw says to his sister, ‘There’s things I’ve done that I have to make amends for.’” Morgan says. “That line was specifically written and put in there just to let everyone know that he is talking about Han — it is on his mind. It tortures him, and he’s going to get to it.”

Fast & the Furious 9 is currently filming in London and is set to be released on 22 May 2020. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren are all on the roster according to IMDB.

However, there is no mention of Kang’s name. John Cena, Anna Sawai and Finn Cole will also play new characters.

Johnson and Statham will not appear in the ninth film but will most likely return for the tenth.

Hobbs & Shaw hits theatres on 2 August.
