Miss Michigan Trump supporter Kathy Zhu has been dethroned for “racist” tweets

CBS reports that Miss Michigan Kathy Zhu has been stripped of her 2019 title for “racist” tweets.

Zhu, who is an

" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outspoken Trump supporter, tweeted that the Miss World America contest “accused [her] of being racist, Islamaphobic and insensitive.”

“They stripped me of my Miss Michigan title due to my refusal to try on a hijab in 2018, my tweet about black on black gun violence, and “insensitive” statistical tweets,” the Chinese American model added.

She also shared a screenshot of the email informing her that she had been dethroned as well as her reply.

“Do you know what is “insensitive”?” She wrote, “what’s “insensitive” is that women in the middle east are getting STONED TO DEATH for refusing to obey their husband’s [sic] orders to wear hijabs.”

In the tweets that led to Zhu being dethroned, she questioned whether the hijab is “now just a fashion accessory and not a religious thing,” after there was a “try a hijab on” booth at her college campus.

“Or are you just trying to get women used to being oppressed under Islam?” She questioned.

In another tweet, Zhu wrote “did you know that the majority of black deaths are caused by other blacks? Fix problems within your own community first before blaming others.”
