KFC China has been accused of plagiarizing BLACKPINK’s music video for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’

AllKpop reports that KFC China’s latest advert has been accused of plagiarizing a music video by Kpop group BLACKPINK.

The fried chicken joint’s advert promotes their new product Queen Mojito of KFC China, which was launched on 1 July.

In the advert, an Asian woman is seen posing with the new drink. Her crown, the pink background, chess board and classroom scenes have all been called out by Chinese fans for similarities to BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ MV.

One YouTube commenter even broke down the KFC advert, citing timestamps that drew likeness to the Kpop group’s MV.

“0:000:07 Lisa’s part “DDU-DU DDU-DU”
0:100:14 Jennie’s part “DDU-DU DDU-DU”
0:150:18 Dahyun’s part “Fancy”
0:190:20 Momo’s+Tzuyu’s part “Fancy”” the YouTube commenter wrote.

Other Chinese internet users agreed with one writing, “this is no longer a suspicion. From the style to the background in this commercial film look identical to ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’. KFC has plagiarized.”
