A college student used Snapchat’s gender-switching filter to catch a pedophile cop

CBS reports that a pedophile police officer has been caught after an Asian college student used Snapchat’s gender-switching filter to catch him.

20-year-old San Francisco student Ethan used the social media filter to pose as a 16-year-old girl called Esther on Tinder.

The Snapchat filter distorts users’ images to allow them to see what they would look like as the opposite sex.

Ethan created a Tinder account as 19-year-old Esther but told San Mateo Officer Robert Davies on the app that she was only 16-years-old.

Ethan tipped off the police and 40-year-old Davies was arrested on Thursday for communicating with a minor with the intention of engaging in sexual activity.

Davies and ‘Esther’ spoke on Tinder in May, and then on Kik and Snapchat. The police officer used Snapchat to engage in sexual activity.

“This alleged conduct, if true, is in no way a reflection of all that we stand for as a Department, and is an affront to the tenets of our department and our profession as a whole,” San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer said in a statement.

“As San Mateo police officers, we have sworn an oath to serve and protect our communities. I can assure you that we remain steadfast to this commitment to serving our community with ‘Professionalism, Integrity, and Excellence.”

Davies is currently on paid administrative leave.
