Donald Trump will nominate a female Asian American prosecutor to the number three position at the justice department.

The FT reports that President Donald Trump plans to nominate a female Asian American prosecutor as the no.3 position at the DoJ.

If successful, Jessie Liu, a US attorney in the District of Columbia, would then be the associate attorney-general at the Department of Justice. The post has been vacant for over a year after Rachel Brand resigned in February 2018.

Liu’s potential position would see her taking charge of the justice department’s civil litigation. The Texas-born Chinese attorney will be up against one other nominee for the position.

Since 2017, Liu has headed up the largest US attorney’s office in the country and is involved in several Russia-related cases.

“With her record of public service, particularly in civil justice and federal law enforcement matters, it is clear that she will be an outstanding addition to our leadership team at the department,” said William Barr, US attorney-general, in a statement.
