‘Linsanity’ has been reignited as news broke of Jeremy Lin signing with the Toronto Raptors.

As reported by CTV, (now former) Atlanta Hawks Point Guard Jeremy Lin has signed with the Toronto Raptors.

The Atlanta Hawks waived Lin on Monday, confirming the move to Toronto.

Lin shared the news via Instagram. “The future is bright for Atlanta!!! I truly mean that!” he wrote. “Everyone who knows me knows how big my dreams are and that I have so much left to give to the game. Hyped to join the Raptors!!”

Brooklyn Nets coach Kenny Atkinson, who coached Lin during his time with the team said the trade was a great gain for Toronto.

“Heck of an addition for the Raptors,” Atkinson said. “What I always said about Jeremy, he’s a heckuva competitor. Much better defender than people think. He fits the style of play I think Nick wants to play. He’s an elite competitor. Everyone competes in this league, but I think there is a pocket of guys that go above and beyond that.”

“Very smart. And versatile. You saw him guard Dwyane Wade in the playoffs. Excellent pickup.”

Lin has averaged 11.8 points in 457 career games and was involved in three playoff runs, in 2013 and 2014 with Houston and in 2016 with Charlotte.

Lin has since been trending on Twitter with ‘Linsanity’ and his incredible buzzer-beater for Toronto being shared around.

“Just like that, has replaced Jake Muzzin as the most exciting acquisition by a Toronto sports team. ,” one Twitter user wrote.

“One thing about the Raptors is that we are a running team. With Lin’s speed and passing ability, it’ll be fun to watch,” another wrote.

‘Linsanity’ is the phrase coined for Jeremy Lin’s outstanding performance at the New York Knicks in 2012, where he transformed from D-league substitute to NBA superstar overnight.

Kim’s Convenience star and Toronto resident Simu Liu shared his excitement about Lin joining the Raptors writing “Welcome home @Jlin7. Toronto is going to SHOW UP for you!” on Instagram.
