The world dumpling eating record has been smashed for Chinese New Year.

As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, a new world dumpling eating record has been set in celebration of Chinese New Year 2019.

There is no better way to welcome in the year of the pig than pigging out and Sydney has certainly taken this in its stride.

With 764 people eating dumplings together at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour, the previous record set in Melbourne of 750 people in 2013 has now been dethroned.

Spread across 100 tables, each participant was served four dumplings each and were required to eat at least two to secure the new title.

Official Guinness World Records adjudicators were officiating the event.

“Sydney is widely regarded for its array of high quality, diverse cuisines from across Asia and dumplings are always a favourite,” said Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

City of Sydney Councillor Jess Scully, radio hosts Amanda Keller and Brendan Jones accepted the award.

In other news, the Guinness World Record holder for being the world’s oldest man, Masazo Nonaka, recently died at the age of 113.
